Why Choose Us

Because becoming an outstanding teacher deserves outstanding training. At Trinity Institute of Education, we don’t just prepare you to teach — we equip you to lead, inspire, and change lives from day one.

Train to teach with our ITT Primary or Secondary programme to become a qualified teacher with a PGCE, QTS and 60 Masters credits! Our programmes are exciting, school-based training routes for recent graduates and career changers. You learn ‘on the job’ with school placements, excellent training and lots of support.

We are an associate college of the The National Institute of Teaching. We work alongside over 57 partner schools, our MAT schools, MAT external initiatives, Calderdale and Kirklees Teaching School Hub and Yorkshire Rose Teaching Partnership. Together we are able to offer expertise and experience from colleagues and schools across the full age spectrum from outstanding settings. More information about our partnership organisations are below.

Our programme takes one year to complete (with part time options also available) and on average we have a 98% employment rate. You will be in school, teaching from the start, giving you the practical experience to feel confident in a classroom from the day you graduate as an ECT (Early Career Teacher.)

Within our course, your time will be divided between the TIE Hub and your placement schools. You will receive constant support from our primary and secondary leads, a school based professional mentor and a placement school mentor. We understand that it’s a big decision to become a teacher and so we want to ensure our trainees feel the support from our entire team at all times.

With a close-knit Institute of more than 57 primary and secondary schools across Calderdale and West Yorkshire and in collaboration with the The National Institute of Teaching, TIE has the expertise, resources and skilled support to put you ahead of the rest as you begin your teaching career. Check out our initiatives and partner schools that help to inform and support the development of our programme…

We also offer free transport on a Thursday from Halifax Train Station to our theory venue.

About our courses

When selecting your main school placement, we take into consideration the distance from your home, childcare or caring responsibilities, mode of transport and any other pertinent information.

You will work from your placement school for most of the year and spend a short period in a contrasting partner school in your area.

We have 2 Theory Hubs: Halifax and Leeds.

Trinity Institute of Education Head Office in The Maltings, Maltings Road, Halifax, HX2 0TJ.
White Rose Maths Head Office - our sister organisation. This is based at The Granary, 1 Canal Wharf, Leeds, LS11 5BB.

There is one day of theoretical training per week, and this takes place on Thursdays.

School-based practice is a core part of your training, helping you connect theory with real classroom experience. Our carefully sequenced ITE curriculum ensures you apply your learning in a structured, timely way. Each week, you’ll meet with your mentor to set focused action steps—specific goals linked to the curriculum. These guide your development and point you to valuable learning opportunities, such as observing expert colleagues. Your timetable will include time to observe, teach independently, and collaborate with others. You’ll plan and deliver lessons, assess pupil progress, and reflect on your practice. Beyond the classroom, you’ll also take part in the wider life of the school, fully engaging with its ethos and community.

Throughout your training you will have a mentor to oversee the school-based training element. They will be a model of effective practice, observe your teaching and meet with you weekly. You will also have a tutor; expert practitioners who will model outstanding planning and teaching to support your development.

During the course you will spend one day a week at Core Training. This will be a blended model of online and face-to-face sessions. This is a school-centred, immersive programme where you will be teaching across the year, the rest of your week is spent in your school placements.

You will be assessed holistically against the NIoT Curriculum, in both your school-based and core training. By the end of the course, you will demonstrate you have met the Teachers’ Standards as required for QTS. The PGCE element of the programme is assessed by master’s level assignments and school experience.

Applications for September 2026 open on Tuesday 7th October 2025 at 9am

“TIE made the course feel achievable by breaking everything down into digestible steps, while still challenging us to think deeply and reflect constantly. The structure and support were spot on, everything from resources to regular check-ins helped keep the momentum going, even when things felt overwhelming.

They never let you fall behind and were always there to guide you back on track.”

Secondary - Maths

“They provided an exceptional amount of support both for the PGCE and the in-school placements. Sue, Emma, Katy, and Elaine were always available to talk to, alleviating any worries I had throughout the year. The community at TIE always felt very inclusive and personalised. They provided me with all the right tools to successfully complete the training year, especially for the PGCE element, they were always there to help everyone.”
